Marina Gadonneix

With the exhibition Phenomena, Marina Gadonneix presents a series of photographs that explores scientific models for replicating natural events. She probes the theatricality of the laboratory, a place of experimentation in which the world is constantly re-created. Focusing on manipulations of the presumably uncontrollable variables that govern Earth, she photographs simulations of natural phenomena such as fire, gravity, an avalanche, a tornado or an earthquake. Through their artificial (re)production, these phenomena literally take shape and become things—entities that we can now grasp. Gadonneix examines the human desire to intellectually appropriate abstract things and transform intangible phenomena into objects (of study).
